The ever-popular West Palm Beach GreenMarket returns for its twenty-fifth season on Saturday, October 5, coinciding with the city’s 125th birthday. To celebrate, we’re calling out 25 things we love about the GreenMarket.
1. Live music. Nothing beats a front-row seat at a Mona Lisa Tribe mini-concert.
2. Handmade asiago gnocchi from Pasta Amore
3. Monthly walking tours with local architect and historian Rick Gonzalez
4. Grab-and-go pickles that are “sweet with a little heat!” Turn the page for more.
5. Pumphouse Coffee draft lattes—the perfect fuel for a morning at the market.
6. Fresh-cracked coconuts by Jamal
7. Accessible by car, trolley, and boat—the city’s free public docks sidle up to the market’s waterfront spot.
8. Free trees! A few times a season, the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability gives away Florida native trees to plant at home, as part of its initiative to plant 10,000 trees in 10 years.
9. Cider doughnuts. Their sugary scent is the unofficial GreenMarket greeting committee.
10. Exotic orchids in a rainbow of colors
11. Free parking
12. Salty, sizzling TocToc Arepas
13. Its awesome growth. The first GreenMarket, located in the parking lot of Old City Hall, had just 13 vendors. The market moved to the waterfront in 2010, and its vendor list now tops 90.
14. Made-to-order crêpes
15. Café Cubanos and pastries from Havana, the only vendor dating back to the first market.
16. Hand-selected bouquets
17. By the Banyan shaded lounging area
18. Its commitment to sustainability. In 2018, the GreenMarket eliminated plastic straws, coffee stirrers, and Styrofoam cups and containers and gave away more than 5,000 reusable metal straws.
19. Unique produce from area farms. Broccolini, anyone? Or jackfruit, loquat, or lychee?
20. Celebrity sightings. Martha Stewart and Dr. Oz have both been spotted at the West Palm Beach GreenMarket.
21. $10 bottomless mimosas
22. A surprising variety of exotic spices and teas
23. An array of vegan eats
24. Artisanal cheeses from La Montagne des Saveurs
25. Dog-friendly, meaning furry pals can enjoy the market, too.
