The Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils 2018, taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 11 to 12 November, is the annual gathering of the World Economic Forum’s Network of Global Future Councils. It brings together more than 600 members from academia, business, government and civil society to provide forward-looking thought leadership and promote innovative thinking to address global, regional and geopolitical issues, as well as emerging or cross-cutting topics related to the Third / Fourth Industrial Revolution. At this year’s meeting, leading experts will also explore the frontiers of knowledge based on a survey of scientists at the cutting edge of research with strong focus on Moon Shots, Doubling Patterns, Collaborative Commons, Social Commons and the New Industrial Revolution Related Infrastructure .

The outcomes of the meeting will shape the agenda for the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2019 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, as well as the Forum’s ongoing global initiatives.

Overview

The World Economic Forum’s Global Future Councils are the world’s foremost interdisciplinary knowledge network dedicated to promoting innovative thinking to shape a sustainable and inclusive future for all.
The network convenes more than 700 of the most relevant and knowledgeable thought leaders from academia, government, business and civil society, grouped in expertise-based, thematic councils. It is an invitation-only community, and members are nominated for a one-year period.
Mission
In a global environment marked by short-term and siloed thinking, the Global Future Councils foster interdisciplinary and long-range approaches. They provide thought leadership on key global challenges, and the impact and governance of emerging technologies through:
- Scoping and monitoring trends and developments- Contextualizing global shifts within the main regional or national frameworks- Deepening understanding of the drivers and enablers of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and its impact on global systems- Informing the World Economic Forum’s strategic initiatives- Highlighting the implications of these dynamics for decision-makers
Members' engagement
Members of the network meet each year at the Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and virtually, several times a year. They also develop recommendations and integrate their findings into World Economic Forum activities such as the Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters and regional and industry events, as well as global decision-making processes.

World Economic Forum's annual meeting of the minds — and money — is held in Davos, Switzerland, every January. The week-long international business conference invites world leaders and business magnates like Bill and Melinda Gates and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff to discuss the world's most pressing social, political, and economic issues.
