In times of continuous uncertainty our community does not refrain from adapting and changing to keep up with whatever is being thrown at us. Now, more than ever, it is important for people to come together and support area businesses and arts institutions. The Kravis Center, the Wick Theatre, and the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County are a few of the local organizations offering different ways to enrich our lives with culture.
The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts is embracing the turn toward technology as a result of the coronavirus to present Kravis @ Home. In addition to virtual music and dance concerts, the free programming includes children’s performances, lectures, and educational activities. Of note this month are two concerts, one by Latin artist Gina Chavez and another by pianist Bill Mays, you won’t see anywhere else. Mays will stream an at-home performance, previewing a portion of the programming he’ll play in full during the upcoming season at the Kravis Center. Check back every Friday for an update on free content accessible on the Kravis @ Home webpage.
In Boca Raton the Wick Theatre will resume in-person activities June 4, 5, and 6 with a program of cabaret hits from seasons past. Beginning at 6 p.m., patrons will enjoy a three-course meal and a live show, all presented with social-distancing precautions. Those still unsure of venturing out due to COVID-19 should review the Wick’s safety video to determine if you are comfortable with the experience. Tours of the Wick’s acclaimed costume museum are also available Thursday through Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County is mounting a virtual summer performing arts series of concerts and exhibitions as well. On June 20, it will livestream a jazz tribute to Broadway musicals starring Yvette Norwood-Tiger. This month will also see the opening of two virtual exhibitions at the Cultural Council, including “Sharon Koskoff: Alone Together” on June 13 and “Philip Paritsky: Kodachrome or iPhone?” on June 20. This series will continue through the summer and streaming into the early fall, with additional highlights like “A Latin Affair” (July 11), featuring Jill and Rich Switzer sharing passion through rumba, cha cha, salsa, and more, as well as “One Love: A Tribute to Bob Marley” (August 29), an evening honoring one of the greatest Jamaican musicians of all time. For ways to watch and the full lineup, head over to the Cultural Council’s website.
