One of the biggest events on Myanmar’s calendar, the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival is a time where pilgrims across the country will visit the storied Inle Lake to pay respects to the 800-year-old Buddha images on site. As such, Sanctum Inle Resort has launched the Splendid Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival Package that allows visitors to enjoy a one-day sightseeing tour to experience the religious event, where four of the images will parade around the lake in a barge with a procession and make its way to 14 stilted villages on the lake. 5. Commune with baby elephants with Amantaka
Explore the Lao jungle with baby elephant Kit, his mother Tongkhun and aunt Mahn. Organised by Amantaka in collaboration MandaLao Elephant Sanctuary and Tours, which focuses on the care and comfort of the Laotian elephants, the interactive experience involves a boat ride across the Nam Khan River to meet the elephants where guests will be encouraged to feed and interact with these gentle giants, as well as give them a scrub down and rinse in the river with traditional brushes and soaps. After which, go on a two-hour trek alongside the elephants to the Huang Nok Stream. Other sights along the way include the Tad Kuang Song waterfall and the ethnic Khmu village of Ban Hua Tad.
