AUGUST 27 – SEPTEMBER 6, 2014
The oldest film festival in the world takes place on the Venetian Lido, with screenings in the historic Palazzo del Cinema.
Founded by Count Giuseppe Volpi in 1932, it has since become one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals and always attracts a glamorous crowd of the silver screen’s finest. Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan is one example of a film that premiered in Venice and went on to triumph at the BAFTAs and Oscars. The most coveted awards are the Leone d’Oro (Golden Lion) for best film—awarded to Alexander Sokurov’s Faust last year—the Leone d’Argento (Silver Lion) for best director, and the Coppa Volpi (Volpi Cup) for best actor and actress. The full lineup of films for 2014 will be announced in July.
