A roller-coaster romance! 90 Day Fiancé star Angela Deem and her husband, Michael Ilesanmi, have one of the most drama-packed relationships in the franchise so it’s no wonder fans are always curious about their status.
The long-distance couple, who first appeared on season 2 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days in 2018, went through the wringer in follow-up episodes of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?
One fan who ran into Angela in December 2021 said that Michael is waiting patiently to get his green card approved following their January 2020 nuptials and remains in Nigeria while his bride lives in Georgia with her loved ones.
“Her and Michael are still together and waiting on his visa. She was in [Las Vegas] for a birthday, [daughter] Skyla was there too,” the Redditor posted alongside a photo of her posing with Angela at one of the casinos in Nevada.
On December 9, Michael took to their shared Instagram account with a rare and heartfelt message to celebrate a special occasion, confirming they were still going strong albeit at a distance. “I’m sending this loving birthday greeting to my darling wife. I’m sorry I can’t be there with you to celebrate, but just know I’m counting down the minutes until I can,” the reality star gushed.
Fans saw the couple’s highs and lows during season 6 of the spinoff, revealing another source of stress in their relationship was her decision to get weight loss surgery amid his hopes to have a child. Michael felt it was unnecessary for her to go under the knife, but Angela said it was important for her to be happy and healthy. The Maury alum underwent liposuction, a gastric sleeve procedure and a breast reduction in August of 2020 and later revealed he “wasn’t supportive.”
In the June 20 episode, Angela reached a boiling point and appeared to be ready to put an end to their marriage. “What woman wants to be married to this? I can’t look at him no more,” she told cameras. “I got too many good-looking men outside there sitting around me. I don’t need this ugly son of a bitch.”
“I’ve married him,” she continued. “I even tried to have babies. What has he given me? He’s put me through pure hell.” Angela even went as far as to tell a lawyer she wanted to file for divorce on the June 27 episode.
The TLC alum previously spoke about their relationship in a June 2020 interview, revealing they hadn’t given up on getting him citizenship, although they had some bumps along the way.
“Getting rid of him is not easy,” she joked to Entertainment Tonight. “Because that’s real love, you know? Let’s face it, being on the show four times, he could’ve moved on a while back. I’ve learned that he really truly does love me.”
The star also responded to criticism about their romance at the time. “I’m inviting [viewers] to see our journey, I’m not inviting you to tell me how I live my journey,” she explained. “At the end of the day, Angela is going to do what she wants to do.”
“Reality is, I have pushed his buttons to the limit, and who couldn’t be in love with me to go through what he’s gone through with me, you know?” the TV personality noted. “I mean, I know that some of the things I do is really chaotic but any woman who has been hurt in the past — and not just one time, but my age — we’re going to be on guard. And maybe I’m on guard too much but at the end of the day, Michael can tell you there’s nothing that I wouldn’t give him if I could.”
Back in February of last year, the second part of the season 7 tell-all aired, and the previously filmed special showed just how much their romance bothered those closest to Michael. In past episodes, the Nigeria native defended his leading lady after one of his friends claimed she is “trashy.”
During the tell-all, his former friends hopped on a Skype call and said they were initially all for Michael’s relationship with Angela, but they noticed some red flags along the way they felt were a cause for concern. It was claimed she “changed” over time, and on top of that, she was accused of having a bad temper.
After the “trashy” comment was addressed, Angela made sure to let the guys know she didn’t care what they thought about her. “I’m the classiest, trashiest bitch you’ll ever meet … Kiss this white, trashy ass,” the TV personality said while rising to her feet. The Skype call was ended shortly after, so Angela and Michael agreed to continue taping the special.
Despite the criticism over their relationship, he revealed his main priority was to come to the United States to be with Angela, even after his previous K-1 visa denial, and it looks like that is still a shared goal for both of them.
One thing is for certain: these two always keep fans coming back for more!
