Samuel Ross‘ A-COLD-WALL* collaborative hot-streak shows no signs of stopping anytime soon, from footwear to apparel and now audio. Tune in to the ACW Beats Studio3.
If you’ve ever had the idea of building a fully A-COLD-WALL* lifestyle – see Supreme Skittles, beds, clothing, and footwear – Samuel Ross has taken leaps and bounds to make that a possibility in 2021. Through his creative imprint, he’s channeled a British working class, brutalist aesthetic onto GENTLEMONSTER, Dr. Martens, and Mackintosh, to name a few.
In the past, the designer has also dipped heavily into homeware and sculpture with Concrete Objects and recently debuted a new coffee table must-have with his Object – Form. Form! book.
Seeing the Beats Studio3 Wireless headphones back in the spotlight feels like it’s the mid-2010s again, a time when you couldn’t get through thirty seconds of a music video without spotting the over-ear headphones or Beats Pill.
Samuel’s take on the cult headphones utilizes a utilitarian slate-and-chalk color palette with a grid pattern, with a black stripe running down each side of the headphone.
Breaking down the design direction of the collaborative project, Ross said: “I wanted to produce a product language suitable for everyday use. Precision and specificity became unspoken rules throughout the process, from product to packaging. New printmaking techniques were developed with Beats to offer a two-tone patina composed of slate greys and washed chalks. The semblance of both, offers a textured hand-touch that reflects the sensation of the hand engaging with raw minerals and manufactured materials – the sensory experience had to exist across physical touch alongside acoustic.”
Initial pairs of the A-COLD-WALL* x Beats Studio3 Wireless headphones will be available via ACW on October 15, with a further release via Apple, SSENSE, Selfridges, and END. Clothing landing on October 18.
