A.Lange & Söhne, House of Lange Exhibition in Singapore

Saxony horological manufactory A. Lange & Söhne organised an exclusive exhibition for local and regional watch enthusiasts, retailers and members of the press sometime last week. Titled: House of Lange, the event signifies the first time in 12 years since the German watchmaker last held this exclusive event in Singapore. The exhibition spanned 5 days at the Salon of the National Museum of Singapore, featuring a new Connoisseurs’ Akademie module to showcase the brand’s rich watchmaking history and top-notch savoir-faire.

The new House of Lange Connoisseurs’ Akademie module was a test of manual dexterity as invited guests were invited to tutored on the basics of watch energy transmission – essentially how the mainspring sends energy through the gear train thus delivering impulse to the escapement assortment and balance. That said, the hosts of the latest Lange Connoisseurs’ Akademie embedded a trick of sorts, pressing a ruby chaton too deeply and thus rendering the second wheel unable to turn, Akademie students were then required to reposition the chaton before the gear train could turn without impediment.

The media preview saw many VIPs in attendance for the tour, hosted by CEO of A. Lange & Söhne, Wilhelm Schmid; Robert Hoffmann, Head of the Zeitwerk department from the manufactory, made special appearance alongside the CEO to share more about the remarkable craftsmanship that goes into the watchmaking process at A. Lange & Söhne and tutor the Akademie undergrads in the finer details of watch movement assembly.

“Mr. Lange is a big part of the company and a person with a big heart. He has given so much to the brand and also to the larger watchmaking community. With the tribute, we just want to show our appreciation towards him and also allow the general public to know about this great person.”

“Thank you for the immense support you’ve rendered to the brand all the years. It’s your support for the brand that constantly motivates us all at the manufactory to push ourselves and to push the envelope to create better and more impressive products,” said Mr Schmid at the gala opening. “We hope you’d like the specially curated exhibition, especially the tribute to Mr Walter Lange. Mr. Lange is a big part of the company and a person with a big heart. He has given so much to the brand and also to the larger watchmaking community. With the tribute, we just want to show our appreciation towards him and also allow the general public to know about this great person.”

The 5-day House of Lange exhibition provided watch enthusiasts and fans of the brand with a memorable glimpse of A. Lange & Söhne’s rich history and once again proving that watches today are not just instruments for mere time measurement but a alchemic blend of art and science.
