Words: Deepali Singh
When Palash Muchhal was only 18 years of age, his song Tu Hi Hai Aashiqui from the movie Dishkiyaoon established him as a music composer in Bollywood. Not only did this achievement lead to many more opportunities in the field of music, but Palash was also named the ‘youngest professional music composer’ in the Golden Book of World Records. While his sister Palak Muchhal is already a renowned playback singer, the 24-year-old musician from Indore, too, is making all the right noises in the music industry, having directed music videos and composed a number of tracks. Now, he’s all set to make his debut as a singer and as a solo music composer as well. Not just that, the artiste has plans to get into movie direction too! Over to Palash Muchhal… (TMM

First Break
Palash Muchhal had acted in a film called Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se with Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone and at the premiere of the film, I met Harman Baweja. I had started composing songs by then and I made him hear two of my songs. Then I got a call from Shilpa Shetty, who was producing Harman’s film Dishkiyaoon and she asked me to come on board as a composer. I think it has a lot to do with destiny for me. Everyone works hard but destiny also has to support you.
Turning Point
I was 18 when two of my songs were in the charts within a week. One of them, Party Toh Banti Hai, was picturized on Amitabh Bachchan Ji, it was playing everywhere! Even the way they promoted it worked really well for me. That was the time I could see myself as a composer. The second turning point was more recent when I composed Musafir and Atif Aslam sang the ditty. That song connected with people and I received many positive messages for it.
My Wishlist
I have written a couple of scripts and I hope to direct a film in the next five-seven years. I have been directing music videos. Now, there is another one coming out called Aakhri Baar, where I am making my singing debut. I have written, composed, and sung the number. I am very inspired by Vishal Bhardwaj sir. He is a one-man show when it comes to direction and music. I want to make films that are out of the box and inspire people.
Sister Connect
Palak and I have kept our careers separate but we do perform together. Though we fight a lot, once we enter the studio, we are complete professionals. She listens to me as a singer and I order her like a composer! (laughs)
Acting Projects
Palash Muchhal said although I’m very confident on the stage, I’m very shy in front of the camera. On the stage, if I remove my jacket also, it’s like I’m Shah Rukh Khan for a day! (smiles) Once I’m not there, it’s the studio I’m comfortable with.
Next Agenda
The song Aakhri Baar is my dream project. Then there are a couple of films I’m doing as a solo composer. Some of the films include Jungle Cry, Chaar Sahibzaade 2, and Tere Aane Se. So, the best is yet to come.
