A Peek Into Meghan Markle’s Little Black Book

As the royal wedding 2018 reaches fever pitch, here’s what we know about the proprietors who are making the big day as picture-perfect as possible.

Wedding Invitations

The invitations were printed by Barnard & Westwood, a bespoke London printer and bookbinder that has held a royal warrant since 1943. The family-owned company has printed invitations for the royal family since the 1980s, including those for Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s nuptials.

Guest List

St George’s chapel, the royal wedding 2018 venue, can hold only up to 800 people but the guest list is reportedly even lesser than that. Around 600 people have been invited to the service on Saturday May 19. Prince George will be page boy and Princess Charlotte will be a bridesmaid but newborn baby brother Prince Louis won’t be making an appearance, to great public disappointment. Among all the royal relatives of Prince Harry, all three of Princess Diana’s siblings will also be in attendance — Lady Jane Fellowes (who will be giving the reading), Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer.

As expected, Meghan’s older (and very outspoken) half-siblings, Thomas Markle Jr and Samantha Markle, have not been invited to the royal wedding 2018. Her mom Doria Ragland, will be attending. And while dad Thomas Markle Sr was initially slated to walk his daughter down the aisle, he fell ill and on May 17, it was announced that Markle Sr will not be attending the ceremony on Saturday to “focus on his health”.

Not one political figurehead has reportedly made the cut to attend the wedding. This includes President Donald Trump, Theresa May as well as Obama and wife Michelle, even though the American couple is close friends with the Prince. But expect plenty of big British celebrity names, such as Elton John and all five of the Spice Girls.

Wedding Cake

In a break from the British tradition of serving fruitcake at a wedding, chef Claire Ptak, the owner of Violet Cakes bakery in Hackney, East London, will create a lemon elderflower cake covered in buttercream and fresh flowers. The California-born Ptak was featured on Markle’s now-defunct blog.

Flowers

Self-taught florist Philippa Craddock, who owns a flower shop in London’s Selfridges department store, takes on the honour of decorating the St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where the wedding takes place. White garden roses, peonies and foxgloves as well as beech, birch and hornbeam branches, sourced from the royally owned Crown Estate and Windsor Great Park where possible, will be used.
