In tribute to the traveler spirit of its founder, Jaquet Droz presents a historical model at double time.
Jaquet Droz has created several iconic models that display multiple time zones in the past — notably the brand’s single-handed Twelve Cities model, which gives the time in 12 capitals with a single hand, along with its Grande Heure GMT and Time Zones.
The founder, Pierre Jaquet Droz, was a visionary inventor of a time profoundly influenced by artistic and philosophical movements of the Age of Enlightenment, but was also a great traveler who traveled the world.
This year, the brand named for visionary watchmaker Pierre Jaquet-Droz launches the first such model within its flagship Grande Seconde family. Pulsating with history and travel by Pierre Jaquet-Droz in the 18th century, the Grande Seconde Dual Time celebrates the magic of a time in a two-beat tempo, with a brand new mechanism and elegantly positioned second time zone.
The timepiece is endowed with two off-center dials, one with Roman numerals and the other with Arabic ones, slightly overlapping to delineate a figure eight, the brand’s tutelary number and a symbol of balance and infinity.
A new movement was developed to create an upper dial displaying the local time and a lower seconds dial, off-centered at 6 o’clock. This is coupled with a second dial hours minutes dedicated to the reference time.
All this is accomplished without compromising the elegance of the slender seconds hand that makes a complete rotation for every minute.
A date has been added, indicated by a needle in the red tip that plays on lowering the volume of the dial, in a delicate architecture of clean forms. This choice also reflects the desire for improved readability.
This mechanism is equipped with a silicon escapement with incomparable chronometric performance and insensitive to the influence of magnetic fields. It has a power reserve of 65 hours.
The Grande Seconde Dual Time is available in three 43mm-diameter versions: an ivory Grand Feu enameled dial with a red gold case, and a silvery opaline or onyx dial with a stainless steel case.
