Acting is not everyone’s cup of tea: Divyu Verma

Acting is not everyone’s cup of tea. It calls for a different mindset, dedication, and patience, which comes with time and a different perspective towards life. Divyu Verma realized this perspective at the right age and here he is, a reputed name from the Indian modeling and acting industry. Soon he explored another creative aspect of his persona, which made him peruse the dream of being an actor too. In a chat with House of TMM, Divyu talks about his viewpoints in the context of the Indian modeling industry, acting, and his dreams.

Divyu is a nice name. What does it mean and how does your personality define it further?
I believe I have a unique name and I absolutely love it. My name means God’s lightening which could also mean a spiritual light and I think my name truly defines my personality not only because I believe that there is a supreme power governing and nurturing us, but also because I am courageous, full of fire, zeal and very passionate towards everything I do in life, like glowing powerful light.

Divyu Verma,You’ve done some amazing commercials. What is your prep work before you face the camera?
My idea is to always feel fresh, confident, and absolutely comfortable on and off camera and that’s my mantra for my shoots too. Of course, the other things also come in play, like the character study, reading, and understanding the script and also understanding what my director wants from me and bring out the best in front of the camera.

Divyu VermaDivyu Verma,You’ve done print shoots too. How is the male modeling industry shaping up?
I think the world is changing overall and so is the modeling industry. Gone are the days when modeling was considered a gender-specific or alternative career option. I think being a model is more than having great physical attributes. A model is someone who influences people. It could be influencing them to be fit, buy certain clothing, etc., so yeah, the male modeling industry has evolved dramatically and we as models are responsible role models to many people out there and I guess we are getting the opportunity to make that positive influence.

Divyu VermaDivyu Verma,You’ve shared that you want to be an entrepreneur too. What is your dream and what all have you achieved by now?
I think I am an artistic person, hence I am inclined towards modeling and acting and I think it’s also important to make the right art available to the audience hence I have started a small venture. It’s a production house called Scoop360 International, which I have started with my brother. It will enable us to create good content and provide an opportunity for the real talent out there.

You’ve been a part of a successful music video, tell us more about it.
I have been a part of a couple of music videos and with each video I believe, I have learned and grown further. But I don’t believe I am yet successful, the videos might be a huge hit but I think I still have a long way to go. I believe that once you feel that you have all the success, your growth stops. But talking about my experience, I think it was a great learning experience.

In a nutshell, you’ve been in front as well as behind the camera. What tips would you give to aspirants?
I think I would tell young aspirants to be disciplined and focused and be honest towards their craft. Work hard and keep learning every day, keep exploring new possibilities about yourself, and be positive.

Divyu VermaYou’ve got a glowing skin and a fit body, what’s the secret?
I eat the right diet, I train every day, I avoid using a lot of chemical products on my skin. I keep myself well hydrated. And I stay positive which keeps my mind and body healthy. If I face any problem I prefer using home remedies for treatment.
