Ahead of Virgil Abloh’s Final Louis Vuitton Collection, We Look Back at His Shows

Following the news of Virgil Abloh‘s tragic passing on Sunday, it is still hard to believe that he is really gone.

The designer was fighting an aggressive form of cancer for three years, and for the last few days, the industry has mourned and paid homage to the late multi-hyphenate. Tonight, Louis Vuitton will be honoring his legacy at the fashion house by showing his last collection in Miami.

Since his appointment in 2018, Abloh had re-shaped the fashion industry and made history as the first Black man at the helm of Louis Vuitton, paving the way for other young creatives and talent. He changed the meaning of Louis Vuitton, and married his own streetwear background and Off-White™ design cues with LV’s vast history to create looks that we’ll remember forever.

From the LV monogram benches and the rainbow runway to the poetry, music, and invitations – every single detail was always carefully considered. Virgil’s vision was to create a universe and an experience, not just a brand or a collection.

One year, the invitation was a clock. Another it was a glove – a nod to Michael Jackson, who was the inspiration behind the range. Another year, he built an entire room inspired by the sky and the final scene in The Truman Show.

Ahead of his last Louis Vuitton show, we’re remembering Virgil’s previous collections at the house, and re-watching them as we mourn the loss of a once-in-a-lifetime talent and force.
