Aimé Leon Dore Gives New Meaning to High Top Sneakers

Following multiple sold-out collaborations with New Balance, Aimé Leon Dore is taking on a new silhouette: the 650R.

Teased by the label’s founder and creative director Teddy Santis, the shoe features a retro high top design with design elements similar to the popular 550 silhouette. Featuring a predominantly white leather upper, the sneaker also sports detailing in black, green and grey colorways, seen across the logo, sole and heel tab, and is finished off with an off-white midsole and long laces. The silhouette is reminiscent of retro basketball trainers, and is the latest high top sneaker to enter the market following coveted releases by both sportswear brands as well as luxury labels.

The New Balance 650R is set to arrive in Spring 2022, according to the post shared by Santis on Instagram. Earlier this year, he was also made Creative Director of New Balance’s MADE in the USA line, which is dedicated to sneakers featuring 70% or more domestic-made materials, as well as produced by one of the label’s American factories.

Although the release is still months away, we’re already getting excited about the upcoming collaboration. The 650R is the latest retro silhouette to be brought back by New Balance, following the Junya Watanabe BB480 as well as the No Vacancy Inn 650’s (that are a completely different silhouette to the 650R, by the way), and we’re only expecting there to be more to come.
