All Looks from Tory Burch SS18
In every Tory Burch collection, people would be expecting great pattern-and-colour combinations. To keep things exciting, the designer has taken the colourful patterns and cheery colours from the archive of the late David Hicks, a celebrated British interior designer.
According to Tory, Hicks' son herself, Ashley Hicks, gave her a blessing by sharing his father's original scrapbook. “Bold. Audacious. Brilliant. David Hicks redefined interiors. For Spring/Summer 2018, we are honored to work with the legendary designer’s original scrapbooks, given to us by his son,” said Tory in the show note.
The collection itself, presented at the garden of the Cooper Hewitt Museum uptown in Carnegie Hill, is full of life in its bold colours and easy silhouettes. To match the collection, landscape architect Miranda Brooks created a green maze in the outdoor venue.
Aiming for a collection that is both "feminine and familiar", the silhouettes are relaxed. Slouchy, wide-legged pants, bohemian caftans and a wrap dress cut from scarves define the selection.
Hicks' works are seen on kaleidoscopic and geometric motifs, and stripes in different scales. An iris print references Hicks' love of gardens an a Moroccan-inspired pattern pays homage to his global influences.
Overall, the collection is about easy and casual pieces perfect for a luxurious summer holiday. Some of the outfits can easily be broken into separates. The Telegraph refers to the feel-good pieces as "dopamine dresses." In other words, Tory has done it again.
