It looks like Duchess Meghan (née Markle) and Prince Harry aren’t the only ones stepping back from their royal titles — Amy Schumer is too … Well, according to her she is LOL. The comedian took to Instagram on Wednesday, January 8, to poke fun at the royals when she made a similar announcement as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“Chris [Fischer] and I are formally stepping down from our royal duties,” the 38-year-old captioned a photo with her husband a few hours after news broke. “We appreciate your support.” It turns out, Meghan and Harry decided to step back so they could live normal lives, which is pretty similar to what Amy and Chris seem to be doing these days since they’re so good at being low-key.
This isn’t the first time Amy poked fun at the royal family. Back in December 2018, she jokingly called the Suits alum her rival. “Why is she my nemesis? Because she’s pregnant at the same time as me and I’m not letting her get away with that,” Amy said during an InStyle segment called “How to Not Give a Sh–t What Anybody Thinks.”
She continued, “So maybe I’m feeling competitive like ‘Oh, Megan looks better than me and she has a tiny small bump and she’s wearing high heels and and I already look 10 months pregnant, and I’ve been wearing flats for the last four years.”
It’s funny because Amy and Meghan have a lot more in common than she thinks! For starters, they both welcomed their first child this past year. The I Feel Pretty star gave birth to her son, Gene, on May 5, and her revelation of the news was everything. “10:55 p.m. last night. Our royal baby was born,” Amy captioned her first Insta pic of her baby boy. One day later, Meghan and Harry welcomed their son, Archie. Talk about timing!
As for what happens next for the royals? We’ll have to wait and see what Meghan and Harry do once they adjust to normalcy.
