Amy Schumer Reflects on Being a Working Mom on Gene’s 5-Month Birthday: ‘I’m Feeling Strong and Good’

It ain’t easy, y’all. Amy Schumer just got real with fans and followers about her experience going back to work after giving birth to her first child, Gene, back in May. The comedian fittingly wrote the introspective caption on her son’s 5-month birthday, October 6.

“[Five] months today and like all moms I love him so much it hurts,” the 38-year-old gave us an update on her Instagram feed. “I’m feeling strong and good and like I’m still a human being with interests and ambitions and goals I’m excited to reach.”

In fact, the funny mama is really bringing the focus back toward those goals, so much so that she’s reveling in being back to work — despite initial trepidations. “It’s felt good to be back at work. I was so worried about it and was afraid to go back after he was [three] months old,” she revealed. “A couple days I’ve cried from missing him.”

Thankfully, the actress is confident that the time apart will only be a positive thing for her relationship with Gene. “But it’s mostly good to be back and the breaks energize me to be a better mom and appreciate our time even more,” she closed out her caption. “I have it a lot easier than many people but I wanted to share my experience. What was your going back to work experience?”

Fans and followers flocked to the comments section to give their two cents on that transitionary period of motherhood — including some famous faces like Drew Barrymore, who shared some serious insight.

“I didn’t care about anything. Everything seemed trivial if it wasn’t about my kids,” the legendary actress, 44, wrote. “But after time, things fall into the new place. Not the old. Old is gone. Forever changed by a love that is indescribable! And it just seems to get better and better every day! I am no longer interested in myself as me. It’s being their mom. That’s who I am now. Your are such a cool person Amy! Your kid is gonna [be] so proud of you!”

The blonde beauty was clearly in awe of the response on her post, because she came back an hour after posting to thank everyone for their perspective. “These comments are so good to read,” she wrote. “Thank you.
