André Chiang Named 2018 Recipient Of The Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award
When Michelin Chef André Chiang announced the closure of Restaurant Andre after 8 years in service, this news came as a shocking statement that shook the local dynamic gastronomic community. Despite closing a restaurant in the busiest destination in Singapore, another new eatery will resurrect in its place towards the end of the year.
On a positive note, the Taiwanese-born, acclaimed chef-owner of Restaurant André in Singapore and Raw in Taipei, has been honoured the 2018 recipient of “The Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award – Asia.”
No stranger to the world of gastronomic scene, Chiang’s menu at Restaurant André encapsulate the texture, terroir and food memories into his inspired Southern French nouvelle cuisine. He had stint with the acclaimed Le Jardin des Sens and was mentored by Jacques and Laurent Pourcel.
To hone his culinary expertise, he had been in France for some 14 good years and mastered the French techniques of cooking, while working with luminaries, including Pierre Gagnaire, Michel Troisgros and Jöel Robuchon. Burnt Ends, MeatSmith, Bincho in Singapore, Porte 12 in Pairs, RAW in Taipei and The Brigade in Chengdu made up part of his successful portfolio.
“I am equally honoured to be the first Chinese chef to receive this prestigious award. My focus has always been to put Asia on the culinary world map and this recognition reinforces that goal. I will remember this moment forever,” – Michelin-starred Chef André Chiang commented on his win
