Aquila Launches Innovative Aft Platform on 32 and Four-Cabin 44

Aquila has debuted its revolutionary 32 in Miami, expanding a range of power catamarans that also includes the 36 (see Review), 44 and 48.

The 32 – which features a forward cabin and two showers – was formerly known as the 30, but has been renamed to reflect its overall length of 32ft 7in with its innovative swim platform.

The aft platform is one of the boat’s signature features as it sits flush with the main deck and wraps around the back of the outboards. There’s also the option of a hydraulic lifting version, which can be lowered into the water, while other features in the stern include a hand-held shower.

“The wraparound aft platform on the new 32 is one exciting example of the innovation coming from Aquila,” said Lex Raas, President Aquila at MarineMax. “Features such as this truly set Aquila apart.”

Able to carry up to 16 passengers, the yacht has flexible seating and lounging areas along both sides, and a table to starboard. The table can actually be lowered and covered by a ‘filler’ cushion between the seating areas to form a double bed.

Most of the seating area is covered by a hardtop with two sun hatches that can be electrically opened, while the wraparound windshield can be partially open to the elements or fully enclosed.

The helm station is to starboard while forward are steps to the bathroom, which offers a toilet, sink and open shower with plenty of headroom. There’s a central galley with fridge, while portside stairs lead forward to the cabin, which has an aft-facing double bed.

There’s a central walkway to the bow, which has a lounging area with backrests for up to three people, and can be covered by a sun shade.

Like the 36, the 32 is powered by twin Mercury outboards – 225hp, 250hp or 300hp each – and offers the option of a Mercury joystick piloting system. The boat has a beam of 3.85m (12ft 8in), while the draft with the outboards up is just over 2ft.

Also, Aquila is now offering a four-cabin version of the 44, designed to appeal to markets outside the USA, which accounts for 75 per of sales.

“The design of this new four-cabin configuration was inspired directly by the feedback from our customers in Europe,” said Dave Biggie, Regional President. “This new configuration is ideal for charter fleets to provide greater return and occupancy.”

The four-cabin version replaces the forward, full-beam master suite with separate cabins in each hull. Each of the four cabins has a double bed, large window and en-suite bathroom.

Aquila catamarans are built at the Sino Eagle shipyard in Hangzhou, southwest of Shanghai.
