If you are looking to experience culinary delights in Fira, then Argo Restaurant Santorini should definitely be on your list of top restaurants to visit. During my short day trip to Santorini last June which you can read all about here, in the evening my friends and I had a wonderful dinning experience at Argo Restaurant Santorini.
The restaurant is set on two levels and there is an outside verandah where you can enjoy the magical sunset. Make sure to reserve your table in advance as it gets very busy. Upon our arrival we were welcomed by Constantinos, the man behind the restaurant who is there to take care of every little detail. The passion which he has for the restaurant can be felt immediately. We let Constantinos decide on the menu, thus he suggested that we try “The Surprise Menu” which consisted of more than 10 dishes, appetisers and main courses included as well as cocktails and wine. Every single dish on that menu was delicious.
Constantinos explained the ingredients of each dish with such an enthusiasm that I could feel the passion that he has for his business. We spoke about his journey and how he was inspired to open up Argo Restaurant. His other greatest passion is travel and he shared some stories about the days he lived in Cairo and Manhattan. His rich travels and culinary experiences allow him to convey and instil that passion into his business. His attention to detail is evident from the way he speaks about the food, the ingredients and how it is served.
Some of the dishes which we tried was octopus with mastic and carper leaves, sea bass gyros with pita bread and yoghurt, seafood with ouzo sauce (scallops, shrimps, prawns and oysters), the famous shrimp pasta cooked with onions, and creamy honey sauce.
For starters we also tried a delicious tuna salad and spinach salad served with caramelised nuts, rocket, bacon, parmigiano cheese, topped with orange vinaigrette sauce, shrimp potato rolls with a tartar sauce.
We then had risotto with mushrooms and truffles. The highlight of the meal was the Picanha meat which is cooked in the oven and served with two different sauces and potato puree with truffles. In the end we had dessert: warm chocolate brownie served with vanilla ice-cream and chocolate syrup.
Information: The restaurant is open from April to October.
