Arrowtown
As time was drawn for the last week of the NZ trip, we still had a few days left to enjoy Queenstown before we head home back to the UK. We decided to visit the neighbouring town, Arrowtown a bus ride away and only cost us $2 with the Go card (now renamed Bee card). Arrowtown is the gold mining town of New Zealand, reminding me of the wild west theme of Westworld.
Arrowtown bakery & cafe
For a quick bite, head on to Arrowtown bakery & Café for some homemade pies, mousetrap toasties, and delicious cakes. My chicken pie is covered in a light flaky pastry, filled with a hearty filling, of creamy sauce with chicken and mushroom pieces. Accompanied with a chilli jam. Mousetrap is melted cheese, sweetcorn, and crispy bacon on a toasted piece of bread.

Shops around the area
The shops in Arrowtown are interesting, you can see gold nuggets in the jewellery shops, and beautiful art pieces in the souvenir shops.
The Chinese settlement
The Chinese settlement is worth a visit, you see a part of the history of early Chinese settlers who came to Otago-Southland in the 1860s. You catch a glimpse of the life of the Chinese migrant’s tiny huts from the gold rush era and Ah Lum’s store.
