Art Stage Jakarta Announces Line-Up

With an ever growing art scene and an equally burgeoning art market, Indonesia stands as one of the major players in Southeast Asia’s ever developing artistic landscape. In view of that, Art Stage Jakarta plans to propel things to an even greater sphere by bringing in collectors from all over the world to experience the diverse and vibrant Indonesian art scene. This is the sister fair to Art Stage Singapore and also happens to be the first premium art fair in this scale. It runs from 5 to 7 August at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel and will set up a great platform for artists all over the region, and elsewhere.

“Art Stage Jakarta will be the window to the unique world of Indonesian collectors and will offer a juxtaposition of the best of Indonesia’s modern and contemporary art with that from Southeast Asia, greater Asia and the West,” said Mr Lorenzo Rudolf, Founder and President of Art Stage Jakarta. Galleries are an important part of that equation, as evidenced by the fact that the fair will host 50 galleries.

These are three of the galleries that will be up on show in the fair:

Founded in 1984, Edwin’s Gallery has enjoyed a long history of showcasing art, having hosted over 100 exhibitions such as those by Rudolf Bonet and Heri Dono. The artists have been essential in promoting the country’s contemporary art scene through their efforts and curating abilities. For Art Stage Jakarta, they’ll be hosting a solo show of artist Kemal Ezedine, who does fantastic flowing compositions influenced by motifs from Balinese art.

This Singaporean gallery aids established and emerging artists in the region, especially those from the emerging Burmese art scene. Their name reflects their goal to foster the intersections between a diverse flow of cultures through the power of art. Among their artists up on display is June Lee, who works across a variety of mediums, although mostly known for her Chinese ink drawings.

The notable Hong Kong art dealer has four galleries located in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore. While the galleries have been influential in the promotion of contemporary Chinese artists, they also showcase a variety of artists from all over the world. One of the artists whose works are being exhibited is Antony Micallef. He does eschewed and aggressively painted forms in a style reminiscent of Francis Bacon, while mixing these techniques with pop culture references.
