Whether you agree with altering your appearance or not, the basic aim of cosmetic surgery is to enhance and improve a person’s mental well being. And as human ingenuity makes leaps and bounds in technology, the risk factor is lessened, if not non-existent. Over the past decade, advancements in technology have made a colossal impact on cosmetic surgeries. Most notable of which is the use of high tech robotics to perform hair restoration procedures. Among these innovations is the ARTAS System, a robot first introduced in 2011 to treat androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness).
This increasingly popular Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) which uses the state-of-the art ARTAS Robotic Hair Restoration System is the first image-guided, robotic-assisted system available to harvest follicular units for hair transplantation. This procedure is chosen primarily because it is a less invasive option for hair loss or thinning, and it attains a more natural look. Many patients opt for FUE treatment because it is virtually painless and only includes minimal (if any) linear scarring. Those who choose the procedure can expect to have lasting results after only a couple of sessions.
Recently, the cutting edge technology of robotic hair transplant surgery by the Artas Robot became available in New Jersey, and is expanding across the nation. The first doctor to pioneer this robot in New Jersey is Dr. Herbert Feinberg, who offers this cosmetic procedure at his hair transplant center in Englewood, New Jersey.
Dr. Feinberg explained, “Hair restoration and hair transplant are one in the same, but patients who have had it both ways will never go back to the strip once the’ve had the robot.” The medical procedure is minimally invasive, relatively painless, and is performed while the patient is under a local anesthetic. FUE is an outpatient procedure and patients can expect to return to their normal activities within a day or two. The robotic procedure takes about 50 percent longer than traditional follicular unit transplantation (FUT), but the recovery is easier and quicker.
FUE is now more popular than FUT, about four times more in Dr. Feinberg’s office. Pricing ranges from $4,000 to $12,000 depending on how many sessions are needed and how much hair would be necessary to achieve the desired look.
The benefits of Robot FUE are exponentially better. State of the art precision robotics ensure the most accurate movement, while stereo digital imagery guides all computer movement and tracks each follicular unit in 3D space. Robot FUE uses visual servoing as a safety precaution to adjust to patient movement. The selective harvest pattern maintains the look of the donor area, resulting in a natural progression of hair growth.
The science behind this breakthrough is simple. Hair follicles present in the back of the head will regenerate for a lifetime, as long as the follicles are removed and transplanted somewhere in the same person’s body. During the procedure, the natural follicular pattern is configured in hair strands by 1s, 2s, 3s and 4s. Robotic FUE leaves minimal scarring, resembling tiny pinhead marks. The hair graft is taken from the back of the head and placed in the hair loss area with a very fine needle. It is less than one millimeter in diameter and the graft is inserted as blood clots around it. Results of transplanting follicles are similar to that of a tree, the hairs fall out as they go into shock mode, then regrowth can take anywhere from two to five months. When the hair regenerates and grows out of the scalp, one cannot tell the difference between what was transplanted and what is existing. After undergoing this procedure, patients can wear almost any hairstyle. However, FUE primarily appeals to men who want to wear their hair short. This treatment is also not recommended for women because their scalps tend to be softer.
Dr. Herbert Feinberg is a world-renowned dermatologist and the founder of the Dermatology Center. In addition to providing effective hair restoration solutions, Dr. Feinberg offers full medical and cosmetic skin care, including Botox, fillers and laser treatments. The center also contains a full-service spa, featuring skin, hair, and nail treatments. To permanently fix a double chin or sagging skin under the neck, Dr. Feinberg uses multiple injections of Kybella, a refined Mesotherapy chemical approved for injection into the neck. The price ranges $1,000 to $3,000 and results can be seen in a matter of weeks.
