Ashish Bisht, graduates to the silver screen with Shab. In his interview with TMM, he shares his journey and more than 5 years of hard work. Shab releases on the 30th of June, and I wish him all the best.
How would you define yourself as a person in real life?
I am a light-hearted personality and cherish every moment life presents to me. I believe that helps us spruce up our survival as human beings.
When did you wanted to get into modelling?
The elders have time of their life asking child ‘what would you become when you grow up?’ *giggles*. While everyone boasted to be an engineer or a doctor, I used to proudly announce being a model some day. Only when I matured and had a reality check I realized achieving a childhood dream isn’t a child’s play. But I never gave up on putting sincere efforts to achieve it. I managed my passion of modelling alongwith working as an employee with a firm. Multi-tasking became my teacher. I learnt from my mistakes, measured own performance and reached where I am today.
You spent more than five years in Modelling before you got your much awaited first break in bollywood with ‘Shab’. Has this changed your life somewhere?
Honestly speaking, I haven’t noticed a drastic change after ‘Shab’. As I said, the road ahead isn’t a bed of roses as it seems to be. Infact, a different pressure has started to build up. My priority is to now look out to work on commendable roles in the time to come. There is one thing which I have observed here in the industry. Every time an individual transitions to a celebrity, all his actions are noted and reacted to. Everyone expects me to meet and greet them with same ease and comfort. Consciously or not, I make sure I am humble while I speak with anyone.
You started from Almora, then Delhi and now Mumbai. What all challenges did ‘model’Ashish Bisht had to go through to become ‘artiste’ Ashish?
I am born and brought up in Delhi. My entire family used to travel to Almora during my summer holidays while I was young. On completing my senior secondary from DTEA, Mandir Marg, a school in Delhi, I wanted to pursue my career in modelling. I had to train myself alot to take modelling up as a profession . Trust me, not once did I think of giving up on my goal of being a recognized face in the industry. I got myself enrolled in a correspondence course, took up a job to earn enough for my survival. I was so desperate to take up modelling that along with my studies and modelling, I did theatre too. I juggled between three things at the same time until I left my job and moved my base to Mumbai. My real life experiences and theatre brushed my skills and helped me bring life to my performance. Every day taught significant lessons of life which I adapted in my performance. Therefore, I never repent doing anything I did as a waste of time.
You bagged your first role with senior actors like Raveena Tandon. How was the experience like?
Raveena is a great actor and a gem of a person! Ever since our first shot together, she never let me feel she was a senior actor. I must say she worked hard to make me comfortable on the sets. ‘Shab’ being my first film, I was quite nervous on the sets to which she told me to only respond to her dialogues. The result of which is now all set for the audience to see and appreciate. I feel blessed to have done my first film with her as my co-star.
What was your first reaction when you came to know you are doing your first film under the banner and that too with Raveena Tandon?
For ‘Shab’ I was put under a series of 19 rounds of audition. As I proceeded one round after other, I was quite sure of living my dream of doing a good script in bollywood. ‘Shab’ has made it possible. Though I kept calm, I was too excited for the project.
