Asilia Opens Flagship Safari Camp in Southern Tanzania

By Lauren Jade Hill

Following the August opening of Roho ya Selous in Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve, Asilia has now unveiled its new flagship property, Jabali Ridge in Ruaha National Park, Southern Tanzania, the most luxurious property to have been built here. Both developed with the intention of boosting responsible tourism in Southern Tanzania, the camps will endeavour to make a meaningful contribution to local economic development and the region’s conservation efforts.

Designed by Nick Plewman Architects and Caline Williams-Wynn of the Cape Town-based interior design firm Artichoke, Jabali Ridge is positioned on a kopije overlooking a forest of baobab trees, blending harmoniously into the rocky landscape, with the integration of baobab trunks paying homage to the wilderness here. Just eight guestrooms feature throughout the camp with walls made entirely from louvred shutters to give the feeling of being in the open-air while making the most of the far reaching views.

Jabali RidgeInteriors also reflect the beauty of this land through understated safari luxe and a color scheme of muted tones. A rim flow swimming pool, spa and library also lie within the space, in addition to the safari camp’s dining area and a specialty gin bar stocking spirits from around the world.

Despite the fact Ruaha is Tanzania’s largest national park, it only has a select few camps within its perimeters. As a result, game drives from Jabali Ridge are rarely met with other safari vehicles, enabling you to appreciate the sightings of lions and elephants undisturbed. Day here are spent exploring the land on morning game drives with breakfast in the bush, afternoon game drives with sunset drinks, and on bush walks led by experienced guides. After dark, guests can then set out on night drives.
