It may not be as exciting as “Charlie and the chocolate factory” but you can trust that when the newly announced chocolate factory by the Roca brothers opens, it will offer up some interesting creations. They may be recognised for their award-winning restaurant called El Cellar de Can Roca in Spain but few would know that Jordi Roca, the pastry chef, has been making chocolates for some time.
To be located in Girona, Spain the project will see the talented chef create chocolates using cacao from Peru. The brothers who are the brains and brawn behind El Celler de Can Roca, have yet to reveal more details — much to our frustration — but in the mean time, we shall settle for testing out the gelateria called Rocamboles that is also run by the brothers in the city.
Apart from the upcoming foray into the world of chocolates, the brothers have also hinted at another upcoming project. The plan sounds similar to the restaurant’s one-off 2013 event “El Somni” that was called a gastro-opera and involved music, poetry, art and imagery accompanied by a multi-course meal. Calling “El Somni” a launchpad of things to come, Roca said he’s been working with the local Vall d’Hebron University Hospital to study how different moods and situations can impact the dining experience. “It has been scientifically proven that if a dish is explained to you well, you will digest it better,” he said.
