Scheduled to make its show debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, Azimut’s new Magellano 25 Metri is the Italian builder’s first yacht to feature a NASA-patented system to renew and sanitise air.
“Azimut Yachts has decided to introduce this technology in response to a growing need that reflects a new increasingly healthy and natural lifestyle,” the yard stated. “The quality of the air we breathe has an objective and material impact on the quality of our lives.”
Using technology originally developed for use on aerospace missions to sanitise the air on board, MMVS (Marine Mechanical Ventilation System) is a centralised system split across the two decks, ensuring a complete change of air every hour.
MMVS is produced by Italian company BCool Engineering, which specialises in the production and marketing of onboard thermal comfort and power products. Azimut is the first shipyard to fit MMVS on board new yachts and will fit it on all of its upcoming models.
The system enables air inside the boat to remain at the selected temperature and be regularly purified by sanitisation of the air-conditioning ducts, surfaces and technical components like the fan coils.
The Magellano 25 Metri is the new flagship of a range that includes 43, 53 and 66 models. With an exterior by Ken Freivokh and interior by De Cotiis Architects, the 82ft 9in motor yacht has a beam of 20ft 10in (6.35m) and four lower-deck guest cabins, plus two cabins for three crew.
Innovations include a cockpit with opposing sofas where guests can enjoy an infinity view aft when the retractable panel – which doubles as the garage door – drops down to create a swim platform.
The yacht features carbon-fibre lamination on the flybridge, hardtop and garage, while at anchor, an innovative ‘hotel mode’ means all on board systems are sustained by lithium ion battery packs instead of generators.
Other features include a semi-displacement dual-mode hull with double chine. The upper chine provides a larger beam at low speed for stability, while at higher speed, the flow separates from a lower chine shaped for least resistance. The yacht is fitted with twin MAN V12s, each either 1,400mhp or 1,550mhp, and has a predicted top speed of 24-25 knots.
Marine Italia represents Azimut in Hong Kong, Guangdong, Macau, Taiwan and Singapore.
