Another one in the financial district in London with busy bodies professionals filling the nearest bars and pubs. Located by one London’s iconic buildings The Gherkin Balls Brothers Bury Court is right at the foot of it.
Balls Brothers has been around since the 1860 beginning as a wine merchant, and now have a chain of places across London. Balls Brothers Bury Court has recently gone through a revamp with new food and drinks offerings and Late Night London invited me down for a preview.
Ball Brothers usually drew men to the venues, I used to work near Chancery Lane and all I saw was men in suits at the place. It was refreshing to see groups of ladies having a little get together.
They take drinks seriously here; there’s different illustration map guides, for cocktails recommendations by notes preference. Be it gin, whiskey, wine. This particular cocktail I had tastes balls to drink the whole thing. The artist’s special is a killer with the whiskey base served in 50mls. Regent’s punch was more enjoyable with fruity mix and tea.
On to the food, the menu on offer is packed with British and Continental favourites. I had cravings for eggs benedict lately and the Omelette Arnold Bennett delivered the satisfaction.
Served in a casted iron pan, my omelette was still bubbling hot, with craters of folded skin around the edges. The pan still cooked my food whilst I ate. Smoke haddock gave the impression of eating smoked salmon fish, the centre stayed a little runny and moist, finishing off with chives and hollandaise.
The rest of the table had beautifully plated food, the salad looked interesting with the tempura vegetables and puffs. Creamed goat’s cheese salad-looked yummylicious.
My mains impressed me; cooked so tender succulent braised pig cheeks, and melted in my mouth following with the deep apple cider sauce. Sautéed scallops tasted so fresh and the mash was perfection cooked with a buttery taste with a thick smooth texture.
Lastly I ended the meal with an indulgent chocolate pot. A warm small chocolate pot like treacle consistency, followed with short bread, and a dollop of cream. Balls Brothers makes the perfection place to go for a drink and meal. You can taste the difference with the quality fresh seasonal ingredients they use.
