BIFW 2018, Bangkok’s signature fashion week, returned to showcase the cream of Thailand’s fashion design scene. The event was presented by Siam Piwat and collaboratively held between three leading shopping centres under the concept “One Siam” – Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery. This was no coincidence, as the area has been the epicentre of Thai fashion for many eras.
Each night was met with excited fashionistas as they waited patiently in line for the shows to start. Celebrities and socialites were dressed to the nines in their finest, looking as beautiful as the models set to take the stage. Our favourites from the week had to be Asava, Vatanika, Tube Gallery, Nagara and Palmer Harding.
Asava presented by Purra, used classical tones such as black, white, blue, beige. Special spring and summer hues were also used, such as Parisian blue, ultramarine green and haute red which all worked to give more depth to the collection. Contemporary Thai silk gave delicate and neat results and the tweed pieces added a classical feel to the collection.
The collection presented a perfect blend between classical and contemporary styles through timeless silhouettes. Pinstripe suit fabrics accentuated both masculine strength and sweet femininity. The details, such as the decorations and buckles throughout the key looks added an air of boldness to the collection.
Polpat Asavaprapa, creative director of the brand Asava, continues to maintain his position as one of Thailand’s most experienced and leading designers.
