Bangkok International Fashion Week 2018: Palmer//Harding

BIFW 2018, Bangkok’s signature fashion week, returned to showcase the cream of Thailand’s fashion design scene. The event was presented by Siam Piwat and collaboratively held between three leading shopping centers under the concept “One Siam” – Siam ParagonSiam Center and Siam Discovery. This was no coincidence, as the area has been the epicentre of Thai fashion for many eras.

Each night was met with excited fashionistas as they waited patiently in line for the shows to start. Celebrities and socialites were dressed to the nines in their finest, looking as beautiful as the models set to take the stage. Our favourites from the week had to be VatanikaAsava, Tube Gallery, Nagara and Palmer Harding.

Palmer//Harding is a British brand that was first launched in 2012 by two co-founding designers, Levi Palmer and Matthew Harding. They are known for their unique and diverse shirt forms, which has earned them the nickname “The Shirt Boys”. The brand’s uniqueness lies within their ready-to-wear garments that use hard-to-copy techniques. Additionally, the brand has developed various collections with diverse types of shirts and dress shirts, using multiple types of cotton.

As one of the highlight shows of BIFW 2018, Palmer//Harding’s Spring/Summer collection was brought fresh off the British runway. The concept of this collection originated from the decision to design something focused on layering, as inspired by Matthew’s teenage years when he wore two layers of shirts underneath his school uniform. Levi and Matthew provided a very diverse collection of blazer stripes, pink oxfords, blue banker stripes, many of which are trimmed with ribbons.

The colours of this season’s collection were inspired by “Robert Rauschenberg: Combines (1953-1964)”. Dark red, white, lavender blue, copper, light grey, navy, black and yellow ochre., in seersucker and textured jacquard. This emphasised simplicity, but not too casual, like a woman who is not afraid to express herself.
