Bankers Fish & Chips
It was May bank holiday a few weeks ago. I had absolutely no plans what so ever. So, when someone suggested a spontaneous road trip out of London. I, of course, raised my hand up and said hell yes. During the same Bank Holiday, I also decided I wanted to fly out for a last-minute vacation which I will talk about in another post. The drive from London to Brighton took about 2 hours the first stop we did was lunch. I was left to research where to eat, and lucky enough I had planned to go Brighton before and knew I wanted to try out Bankers. It’s a tradition for me to eat fish and chips by the seafront.
Location
Bankers are on the off beaten road away from the seaside and train station but are easy to find along Western Road. The flagship store in Brighton has natural wooden tables and chairs. Walls and pillars are painted in plain white, a casual restaurant vibe. The waiter sat us down immediately letting us pick where we sat. Handing over the menu, drinks I picked out a rose lemonade and for food choose my usual plaice and chips. D ordered cod and chips and A got haddock with salad. The food is made to order with a usually waiting time of 20-30 minutes. Bankers source their fish from Iceland sustainable fisheries certified.
When the plates arrived, I was in shock with the size of my plaice fish, three-quarters of the plate was just my fish. The chips were divine, cooked with a light crisp on the outside. It was like biting into a potato chip and hot fluffy mash. The batter on the fish gathers around the plaice, thin texture and very fresh fish. Tartare sauce was the only disappointment a tad bit tasteless. The cod and haddock I sample were better in flavours so would recommend ordering those over the plaice fish.

Sea Haze Seafood Shack
A couple hours of sunbathing and D looking for another place to park. Brighton is so expensive to park. There is no free parking so it’s essential to research the cheapest spot. The NCP car park we first stayed cost £15 for the three hours. The second spot at London Road is a lot cheaper from £1.50 an hour. Getting a bit peckish again, we stumbled across Sea Haze sea food shack stall along the beach and ordered oysters and mix seafood. Take a photo with Larry the lobster.
Graffiti street art is another great thing to see in Brighton, the bright and colourful art matches the vibrant vibe in the area.
Shogun Ramen
Walking up and down the pier, getting tired and hungry again. We decided to look for food in the town before the long ride home. Most places ran out of Sunday roasts and turned us away for not having reservations.
Somehow, we found Shogun Ramen and had a quick glance at the menu and decided to try it. I ordered the pork cutlet katsu curry whilst the other two had ramen. Served up what seems like an enormous black spoon, there was plenty of java curry in a thick density and pork cutlet nicely sliced with some Japanese pickles underneath it. Shogun Ramen serves up authentic Japanese fast food.
