Fendi dates back to 1925 when it was launched in Rome, and today the Italian fashion house is known to have some of the most captivating runway looks and accessories after each season. The brand’s incredible Peekaboo bags are known for their exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail and have come to be known as one of the most classic bags in fashion history. The bags use beautiful calfskin leather and feature intricate stitching and hand-painted edging.
Fendi’s latest releases fuse modern 3D technology with the finest craftsmanship, giving these classic bags a trendy edge. Craftsman utilize three techniques to create the perfect bags: Laser Cut, Intrecciato and Intarsio, or inlay, seen in the men’s and women’s collections.

The Peekaboo X-Lite bag for men, pictured here, uses the Laser Cut technique. A leather panel is first resin-treated on the back before the leather is laser cut following the preferred design, like the Fendi script here. Lastly, a fabric lining with striped Pequin pattern is placed inside, which can be seen through the cut holes in the Fendi script. There is sumptuous suede with an embossed FF logo pattern on the inside of the bag.
A detailed image of the Laser Cut pattern. After the Laser Cut technique is completed, artisans adjust the design to the style of the bag, in this case the Peekaboo X-Lite.
The Inrecciato craftsmanship can be seen in the Peekaboo Regular and Peekaboo Mini. Leather is first cut into small strips before it is assembled and hand-woven through small knots. The knots are then folded on the opposite side, and the bag is finalized with a maxi metal needle. Pictured here is the Peekaboo Mini in a pale-pink hue being assembled by hand.
The Intrecciato, or Interlaced, design is a classic Peekaboo design with the most traditional craftsmanship. It still has that slouchy curve that makes the bag so sought after.
One of the most interesting and innovative creations is the Peekaboo Regular men’s bag made with the Intarsio technique. Artisans use Selleria Cuoio Romano leather and leather on the inside with hot-stamped embossed FF logos all over. Featuring the finest materials, the bag also features a combination of mink and leather on the front. First, artisans must prepare the underlying “net;” next, the leather is hand-carved and layered with another piece of leather for thickness. After, a fur panel is placed on top. Different mink layers are assembled together to have the correct size. The pink panel is then cut and sewn back together in the desired pattern. Lastly, the leather panel below and the pink panel on the outside are sewn and assembled by hand.
The Intarsio technique uses Selleria Cuoio Romano leather, which features handmade seams on the outside. The tedious process results in a perfectly symmetrical bag with mink and leather, seen here.
