Speaking her truth. Bella Hadid called Instagram out after her post of her dad Mohamed Hadid‘s passport photo got deleted on Wednesday, July 8. After it got removed, Instagram sent Bella an explanation, which she ended up sharing with followers on her Story.
“A message to me from @instagram,” the 23-year-old began. “Instagram removed my story that only said ‘My baba and his birthplace of Palestine’ with a photo of his American passport. @instagram, exactly what part of me being proud of my father’s birth place of Palestine is ‘bullying, harassment, graphic, or sexual nudity’? Are we not allowed to be Palestinian on Instagram? This, to me, is bullying. You can’t erase history by silencing people. It doesn’t work like that.”
Then, the brunette beauty reposted the photo of the passport and wrote, “Do you want him to change his birth place for you?” followed by another post. “I am proud to be Palestinian. Everyone should post where their mother and fathers were born today! Remind them how proud you are of where you come from!” she added.
Mohamed then echoed his daughter’s message by resharing her post. The real-estate developer’s other children also chimed in. Gigi Hadid reposted Bella’s Instagram Story and added, “Proud.” The models’ older sister Alana Hadid wrote, “I’m proud to be your child and a proud Palestinian who you taught to be inclusive.”
This isn’t the first time Bella used her platform to speak about topics important to her. In March, she shared why it’s essential to quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic. “Me and my burrito [are] telling you to stay inside!” she captioned an Instagram selfie in which she was eating. “Not only for the sake of just yourself but also for literally the entire world and all of the people that you love. It’s crazy because all we have to do is work together to slow down this virus and people are still having trouble understanding that … Don’t be selfish!”
Bella has also used social media to shine a light on the Black Lives Matter movement. Clearly, she’s doing something right.
