Belmond has announced plans to introduce three new Grand Suites to the legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (VSOE) in time for the 2020 season.
The new suites have been named Vienna, Prague and Budapest in honor of three iconic European cities that the train visits on its way from London to Venice each year.
Launching in time for the first journey of the season on March 21, 2020, the VSOE will see the number of Grand Suites onboard double from three to six with the aforementioned trio joining Venice, Istanbul and Paris.

Designed by Wimberly Interiors, the new Grand Suites take inspiration from the city they are named after but also respect the VSOE’s original 1920s art-deco design.
The Prague Grand Suite encapsulates the city’s Gothic architecture and theatrical feel through rich gold and maroons. Vienna takes inspiration from the city’s Grand Palaces and imperial nature through silk fabric panels and touches of dark wood. Finally, the Budapest Grand Suite includes both Gothic and Ottoman architectural aspects through intricately detailed marquetry and silk embroidery patterns.

“The suites evoke the individual city experience whether it is walking along the Charles Bridge in Prague or exploring the contrasting Gothic and Ottoman architecture of Budapest. They are a real tribute to the romance and glamour of Europe and the golden era of rail travel.”
All suites include en-suite bathrooms and private showers, double beds that can convert into twin beds, and a private living area with underfloor heating. Guests traveling in one of the VSOE’s Grand Suites also enjoy private transfers to and from the train and a personal 24-hour cabin steward. Free-flowing champagne and private in-suite dining are also available.
