A high performance rear-engined sports car made since 1963, the Porsche 911 S Targa is legendary, with form and aesthetics largely unchanged over the decades. That is until the House of Berluti gets their hands on it. The atelier redefines the definition of luxurious exclusivity once again with a bespoke interior of one of the world’s most iconic and sought after sportscars.
The custom Berluti Porsche 911 will be auctioned by Sotheby’s as part of the Berluti: The Art of Craftsmanship, a selection of items hand-chosen by Sotheby’s specialists, paying tribute to the maison’s heritage and sublime handcrafts. The 1973 Porsche 911 with Berluti interior is the first ever to be customised in this manner: if the classic Porsche 911 is unforgettable on the outside, just wait till you experience the exclusive Berluti patinated leather interior – this classic car is memorable inside and out.
Berluti Porsche expressing The Art of Craftsmanship to be auctioned by Sotheby’s
Sartorial petrolheads will surely take delight in the bespoke Berluti Porsche 911 S Targa, “car culture” meets high-end fashion, with a classically restored, “new old stock” 1973 Porsche 911 customised with an interior of leather patina that tells a tale of time. It is the very expression of the mastery of skills from both Stuttgart and Paris.
” The idea was to conceive of a driving experience combining pleasure with style. What could be more exclusive than to offer a brand-new interior with an old-fashioned patina?” – Berluti press statement
Indeed, the Berluti Porsche 911S Targa combines the best of both worlds: the maison’s artistically embellished natural grained leather, optimised comfort that upholds the classic driving experience with the simple pleasures of piloting a classic sportscar from an era free from an over-abundance of electronic assistance – from the drive and the handling, it’s like you were sitting and driving rather than walking in one of Berluti’s time-perfected leather shoes but the experience is analogous – one to be felt rather than “electronically guided”.
Berluti artisans spent close to 500 hours working on the 1973 Porsche 911 S Targa, using some 20 hides and three separate techniques to create this expression of craftsmanship:
- Upholstery: for the seats, door panels, dashboard, headliner and mat trim in curly wool
- Cladding and embossing: for the switch units of the dashboard, window switches, and seat and heating adjustment controls, some of which are hand-stitched.
- Patinating of the house’s emblematic signature leather: the immediately recognizable Venezia leather in its “cacao” colour.
