The month of September holds a special meaning for smartphone enthusiasts because this is when many companies push out their new models for the year. From the much anticipated Apple Keynote event where Apple unveiled the new iPhone 13 lineup to Samsung’s release of the Galaxy Z models, there is a lot to unpack.
If you’re looking to trade up, here’s a list of high-end smartphones we recommend to get this year.
High-end Smartphones to get in 2021
- iPhone 13 series
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G
- Huawei P50 Pro
- Xiaomi 11T Pro
iPhone 13 Series
Revealed in its annual Keynote event, Apple introduced to the world its latest line-up of iPhones. Its iPhone 13 series debuted on September 14 and is comprised of the following: iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Powering the new iPhone 13 models is the new A15 Bionic processor which Apple says is 50 per cent faster than its predecessor, the iPhone 12. With a faster chip, the new iPhone models have enhanced photo processing capabilities. For the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, cameras now can capture better quality photos in low lights and better handling of wide-angle shots.
On the higher end models — iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max — it is now 20 per cent brighter due to the ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. This means higher frame rates, smoother scrolling and a better gaming experience.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G is one of the more interesting high-end smartphones this year due to its unique design. Acting both as a phone and a tablet, the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G is a powerhouse that can take you from business meetings to happy hour after work. It is powered by Samsung’s 64-bit Octa-Core Processor, which allows it to handle multiple applications and stream high-resolution and graphic-intensive games. Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G comes with a Multi-Active Window feature which makes multitasking a simple feat.
Boasting five cameras, the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G has three 12-megapixel cameras at the back that allows for three different modes: Ultra Wide, Wide-angle and Telephoto. At the front, it has two cameras: a 10-megapixel camera on the surface of the cover screen and, for the first time, a 4-megapixel under-display camera on the main display.

Huawei P50 Pro
Perhaps the most notable feature of the P50 Pro is its two large camera modules at the back of the phone. The top camera system houses a total of three lenses: a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 40-megapixel monochrome sensor and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens.
The lower camera system has a 64-megapixel Periscope zoom lens with a 3.5x optical zoom. With a top of the line image capturing system, the P50 Pro is the perfect phone for any photo-taking enthusiast. Coupled with improved image processing capabilities, the results show more vibrate photos; video stabilisation has been improved as well. All these are made possible because of its XD Optic engine.
The P50 series is also the first to use its proprietary HarmonyOS software but the phone is still unable to run any of Google’s main applications such as the G-suite and YouTube. This high-end smartphone is still a catch if your main goal is to capture stunning images.

Xiaomi 11T Pro
The main highlight of this latest phone by Chinese brand Xiaomi is its fast charging capabilities. The Xiaomi 11T Pro can get a full charge within just 17 minutes according to its press release and it will an entire day. This is a welcoming feature for any phone user who heavily depends on the device for work. Like all other smartphones, the cameras play an important role and the 11t Pro is fitted with a powerful triple camera set up: a pro-grade 108MP wide-angle, 2x telemacro, and a 120° ultra-wide angle lens.
Coupled with the stunning camera system, its computational filmography allows the phone to achieve a slew of innovative “Cinemagic” filmmaking features. The 11T Pro takes precedence over heavy and expensive movie-making equipment — rendering the latter a thing of the past. Now, industry-leading filmmaking technology is now available in the palms of aspiring creators’ hands.
