If you are planning your summer holidays on Patmos and are on a hunt for places to eat and drink, there are several impressive restaurants which you should try. Here is our list of the best restaurants on Patmos which we tried and loved.
Best Restaurants on Patmos
Ktima Petra Restaurant
Grikos Bay
Set inside an estate overlooking the beach of Grikos Bay this family run taverna prides itself for the freshly prepared dishes made with homegrown and locally sourced ingredients. The traditional greek specialties are prepared in a wood-burning oven.
We tried a selection of hearty dishes such as boiled wild greens and zucchini sprinkled with lemon and olive oil, stuffed eggplant rolls, tomato salad with a white soft cheese, friend zucchini balls, kolokythoanthi — stuffed zucchini flowers, and a tender goat dish prepared in the wood oven.
Nautilus
Livadi Geranou
Looking to enjoy a quality meal with mesmerizing Aegean Sea views? This new hotspot in Livadi Geranou promises, colour, sunshine and delicious dishes.
Offering a blend of Mediterranean and Greek cuisine, Nautilus Patmos is an all day destination and is the ultimate place to grab dinner and cocktails in style. Come here on a full moon and you will be swept off your feet by the glorious light of the setting sun, touching the waters and illuminating the starry sky.
We started our dinner with a selection of starters such as feta cheese drizzled with sesame and honey, a traditional Dakos salad served with rusks and topped with fresh tomato, olives, capers, rocket salad and a soft unsalted white cheese. The Manouri Cheese salad is also a refreshing choice, prepared with fresh green salad, mixed with prosciutto, pear, walnuts and topped with a sweet balsamic vinegar and honey dressing.
We also tried their caramelised octopus served with traditional “fava” split pea, a Greek style burger and last but not least the restaurant’s specialty — slow roasted goat leg served with oven baked potatoes. End your meal with a sweet something.
Ostria Restaurant
Skala
Situated across from the main port of Patmos, this waterfront taverna is an ideal choice for lunch and dinner. We savored a delicious selection of their seafood dishes such as ochtapodi ksidato (octopus cooked in a vinegar sauce), mussels cooked in a white wine sauce, taramasalata (fish roe dip), garides saganaki (shrimp in a tomato, feta cheese sauce), bakaliaros skordalia (battered cod fish served with a potato garlic dip. We also had a salad and meatballs served with french fries.
Pleiades Bar Restaurant
Sapsila
Located in the Eirini Luxury Hotel Villas this creative Greek restaurant is effortlessly stylish and very romantic. Set on a hill just three kilometres from Skala the restaurant enjoys magnificent vista views.
The restaurant has the tastiest menu created by the Michelin-awarded Chef, Ettore Botrini. Dinner here is best described as an “ experience” rather than just another meal.
For starters we had swordfish carpaccio with strawberry vinegar, cucumber and avocado, a simple Greek salad which was anything but simple as it was served in a flower pot, a crazy salad served with goat cheese and strawberry vinaigrette.
For main course we tried the risotto with aromatic herbs, infused with a vanilla essence and shrimps, a fantastic swordfish kontosouvli and harrira sauce. Basically you get a smoked fish on a spit which is infused with aromatic herbs, very impressive! Last but not least there was a spaghetti a la marinara served in a beautiful shell plate.
Plefsis restaurant
Grikos Bay
A magical waterfront dining experience is guaranteed in this traditional style tavern located at the Patmos Aktis Suites & Spa Hotel. The menu is packed with perfectly balanced seafood and meat dishes and a generous selection of meze style dishes. Fresh fish and lobster spaghetti is also available and can be prepared upon request.
We must have tried pretty much everything on the menu, starting off with salads: a refreshing quinoa salad with parsley, tomato, onion and lemon, the Greek salad of course, another salad prepared with rusks, tomatoes, xinomyzithra cheese and capers.
We also savoured a selection of dips such as white taramasalata (white fish roe) mousse with lemon and grilled pita bread, the famous Santorini fava topped with onions, capers and almonds.
For appetizers we indulged on fried zucchini served with a refreshing yogurt and spearmints sauce, grilled feta cheese with tomato, green pepper and red pepper flakes, peppers stuffed with a cheese mousse and herbs, fried cod in beer batter with a garlic potato mousse, grilled octopus, shrimps saganaki with ouzo, feta cheese and tomato, fried squid and cuttlefish balls as well as a meat appetiser, chicken cooked with mushrooms in a mustard and oregano sauce.
Lastly we tasted a few of their main dishes which were equally delicious. We had grilled pork steaks which are served with rice and french fries, seafood giouvetsi cooked in a fresh tomato sauce and marinated grilled chicken in yogurt and red pepper.
Tarsanas Marine Club
Stavros Diakofti
The experience you will have dining at Tarsanas Marine Club is guaranteed to be unique for all the senses. Imagine having lunch in an old shipyard overlooking the Aegean Sea, listening to the sounds of the chipping hammer in the background and the sweet smell of wood. Priceless!
The cuisine here is traditional Greek, nothing pretentious but rather relaxing. We tried a selection of two salads, a Greek salad by all means can never go missing from a typical Greek style mea and a mixed green salad with capers, pomegranate seeds, pine nuts, finely chopped apple, cheese and a sweet balsamic vinegar dressing. You must definitely try their kataifi spinach balls served in a lemon sauce and the tender goat cooked in a fine lemon sauce.
As you might have noticed goat is a favourite dish on Patmos. For the main course we also had Pastitsio, another staple Greek dish prepared from layers of pasta topped with meat sauce, spices, cheese and a creamy béchamel sauce.
