Supermodel & actress Elena Fernandes divulges her travel tricks that is all about stepping out beyond the comfort zone and living life.
Travel plan: My profession has made me a pro at last minute packing. The easiest way to check is to start from the head and then lead towards feet. For example, cap, shampoo, conditioner, brush and then shoes, socks and so on.
Travel light or pack in everything: Definitely travel light. I pack my staple pieces and one dressy outfit.
Travel style: I love to keep my style comfortable. With so many long haul flights it’s definitely best to be in something loose so you can breathe.
Travel beauty hack: Keep it light and simple. SPF moisturizer is a must and generally, that’s all you need along with lip balm and an eyebrow brush.
Foodie moment as a traveller: I’m a really boring foodie. I generally stick to what I like which is fish and potato. My condiments are salt and pepper, that’s the Londoner in me.
Must pack items: Jacket, a pair of flats, heels, and trainers. Keep the flats and heels either black or nude so you can mix and match it with your outfits. Invest in a phone case that can hold your cards and some cash.
Travel lessons learned: Always check if any visa is required before you travel or if you get one on arrival. And always have a pen handy. There is always some paperwork you have to fill in when travelling somewhere new.
Travel pet peeves: I have several. I get irritable when people don’t have their passport and ticket ready when boarding commences. Also, when people don’t place their luggage above the designated seat.
Scariest travel moment: I wouldn’t say scariest but definitely whenever there is a really bad turbulence. At the beginning of 2018, I was en-route New York and the turbulence lasted for around 3 hours, so that was quite scary.
One packing tip: Be realistic. You will not wear a different outfit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So avoid over-packing.
Favorite travelogue and why: I follow a lot of travel destination profiles on Instagram. I save the ones I wish to travel in the future.
Weekend getaway: My favourite weekend getaway is definitely to the countryside or somewhere up North in the UK where there’s just greenery. In India would definitely have to say my father’s home city, Goa.
Travel goals: I’d love to go to an island. I love the whole idea of white sand between my toes and overlooking the crystal blue sea.
Next stop: I will be heading to London for a week as part of my brand contract with River Island but then back to Mumbai to start filming for the new movie that I have just signed. Keep your eyes peeled for the announcement (winks).
