Prior to visiting this place, I didn’t really research I was hungry from a long work night and needed some food. I saw the words French burger bistro, above the shop sign for Big Fernand and thought well why not since I love my French food. Big Fernand has multiple outlets in France, one branch in Dubai, Hong Kong and now London.
The only London location is based in the Fitzrovia area by Percy Street, it has two floors, and the small kitchen by the front. You order your food by the counter and take a seat anywhere you like. Six different kinds of burgers on offer on the menu. I went for Le Big Fernard (£9), and some French chips (£3). They don’t call their burgers, hamburgers but Hamburgés. At Big Fernand you can have your burger cooked exactly how you like it, so if you want it blue rare that’s fine with them.
It didn’t take long before my order came to me, burger wrapped in Big Fernard branded paper and French chips in a paper box. Unravelling the burger, two oversized buns covered in white sesame seeds on both the top and bottom. A little peek into the bun and you can see some specks of parsley and oozing melted cheese ready to be ripped apart in my mouth.
Biting into the burger the meat is flavorful and minced up well, on the menu it says the beef is minced up daily. Merged together with the meat is tomme de savoie cheese hailed all the way from France and sundried tomatoes followed with a homemade cocktail sauce. The burger did not disappoint and the bun managed to stay together through the sitting.
French chips were slightly soft, would have been better if it was more crunchy. Big Fernand French style chips are seasoned with a homemade seasoning which strongly taste of paprika. That French ketchup is highly addicted a lot sweeter compared to vinegar style ones we have here in the UK.
