Bird
The words “unlimited wings and fries” appeared in the inbox from Timeout newsletter. £15 for a 90-minute session of eating nothing but ripping chicken with my teeth and fries at Bird. I’ve been to Bird in Westfield Stratford and enjoyed the chicken and waffles. Of course, I had to invite my food bestie with me. We ended up booking a spot at Bird in Camden. Even in the early evening, the place had barely any customers.
Unlimited chicken and fries
They took a while to seat us but took our drink orders right away. Our first portion was served up in a skillet of 10 pieces. A whole chicken consumed in the first round. Bird sources their free-range chicken from a family run farm in Yorkshire Wolds. Chicken is brined in buttermilk for that buttery melt in the mouth texture and coated in their in-house seasoned flour mix. The only disappointing thing about these fried chickens was that I could tell it was pre-cooked than re-fried for the unlimited wings offer so it didn’t taste freshly fried as the ones I had in the Stratford branch. Each round we had a selection of sauces to go with the chicken. Blue cheese and honey ginger tasted best.
The chicken
Concentrating on the chicken, the fried were barely touched. I was too full of eating the first serving to even eat another round, but my friend managed another portion. The food at Bird was decent but I have yet been down that the chicken wasn’t freshly fried. Great big portions and tasty free-range chicken overall.
