My friend J and I planned a day out of photographic adventures at Mayfield Lavender Farm and a spot of traditional afternoon tea.
J coming from New Zealand wanted to experience high tea in England. Drinking tea in England is daily ritual and can be enjoyed at any time of the day. There’s something about drinking tea in the late afternoon with some cakes or biscuits that help me relax.
I chosen the venue Bluebird Chelsea simply because it’s part of the D&D London group, noted for looking after the most stunning venues in London. Such as OXO tower and Coq D’argent, plus I just love being in Chelsea.
The Bluebird is a stunning venue, with a café next door for a more casual affair, outside seating area fills the area and smoking BBQ smells waltz in the air. Afternoon tea is served at the bar; taking the lift we approached the dark sleek walls to a small area already set up for our afternoon tea. There are three different afternoon tea options to choose, Bluebird, Chelsea Fizz or the SW3.
The Bluebird afternoon tea package is £22,50 per a person with a choice of tea or coffee.
A three-tier metal tea stand was presented to us with a great selection of baked goodness. We both started at the bottom with smoked salmon tarts, crumbly buttery base filled with a creamy filling topped with slices of smoked salmon.
The sandwich fillings were tangibly tasty, egg mayonnaise, ham, and mustard.
Lemon sponge cake delighted us, super soft texture with sharp citrus curd.
The real giveaway of a great afternoon tea place is the scones and Bluebird succeeds. Their version isn’t too heavy and does not leave that too much baking soda aftertaste.
Rest of the sweet treats were as follows, macaroons, chocolate dipped biscuits and saving the best to last a mini eton mess teacup. Light whipped berry cream with fresh summer fruits.
Afternoon tea at the Bluebird Chelsea was a fabulous delight, and the surroundings and 5 star services from staff is worth the visit.
