Bread Ahead
Bread Ahead is up there for creating one of the best doughnuts in London. The dough takes 45 minutes to prepare and needs to be chilled overnight before each doughnut is fried on each side than piped with various fillings. Bread Ahead has several locations in London, and the Bread Ahead shop is located at Beak Street in the trendy Carnaby Street area.
Carnaby Street location
The Carnaby Street location has plenty of room to sit in, grab a hot drink and eat the baked goods Bread Ahead has to offer. Unlike the other street stalls where you need to stand and eat on the go.
The Bread Ahead doughnut
On my visit, doughnuts laid in neat rows on the display counter and if you don’t fancy sweet treats there are rolls, baguettes and more to choose from. Salted caramel cream with honeycomb doughnut is my usual order however, I felt like something different. Going back to the basics of a simple raspberry jam filling. They are on the pricier side cost £3+ and is always a nice treat every now and then.
What makes Bread Ahead doughnut irresistible?
It’s down to the dough, it is bouncy and soft fluffy in the inside. There’s also the hint of saltiness from the added sea salt and if your tongue can taste it, a little tartness from the lemon zest. The doughnut is lightly coated in caster sugar granules.
Depending on the filling, your doughnut ball will come oozing out of a tiny hole it was piped in.
Well, the raspberry jam seemed too basic, I urged you to try the flavoured custard flavours instead.
