After spending more than 20 years in the FM industry, 92.7 BIG FM’s RJ Khurafati Nitin feels that 2020 has been a unique year of learning, where his family and listeners came together and made it a happy professional space for him. In an exclusive chat with TMM, India’s favourite RJ talks about work from home experience, CSR activities and his most recent travel project.
How was the work from home experience?
Well, initially it was quite a task, as the privacy of my family was being intruded; after all, home is their space. But gradually things turned smoother and I found a way of including even the daily 
chores in my show. For instance, the tune of the doorbell at home is now known to all the listeners. Initially, when my wife or any other family member used to come into my room, I used to ask them to leave, but later I incorporated all the nuances in my show, so somewhere listeners and my family became all one and it was a happy time together.
You are known for your CSR activities. What did you do during the lockdown?
I guess the credit to my CSR activities goes to my listeners, who come together every time I urge 
something. And the same happened during the lockdown. In the second or third week, I realized that something needs to be done for the daily wage earners so that they get at least two meals a day. I run a campaign on Big FM and requested RWA, that lets come together and bring a smile on their face. And you won’t believe we managed to have 10 tonnes of food from across Delhi, of which 650 kg was from my locality. I guess Delhi proved itself to be ‘Dilwalon ki Delhi’ during this campaign and that’s why I feel, the success of my CSR activities has a lot to do with my listeners who make it a success.
Big Sunday Celeb on your show is a hit. What is it all about?
So, the idea was to go beyond the obvious and know the people sitting on high profile chairs. So from government officials to politicians, we wanted to know their real-life story and what is their favourite food, song, and more. We normally know them as officials and we have a blame game relationship with them, but Big Sunday Celeb brings in a fresh wave of thought and make people know the other side of these people who are also a part of the same society.
You have recently ventured into travel project as well, Tell us something about it.
Post lockdown people have started venturing out and are enjoying traveling, and at the same time I was asked to be a part of this hospitality project, so I immediately said yes and me and dad, who hasbeen associated with the hospitality industry for the longest period decided to call it Tuskar’s by Kurrafati Nitin, in Dhikuli, Jim Corbett National Park. This is an affordable luxury resort with a lot of woodwork and a plethora of organic farming, which I hope will be loved by the travel junkies. Also, if you go at the right time, you will get to enjoy jackfruit and mangoes too.
