Brooklyn Botanic Garden

There are few places in the concrete jungle to get a proper dose of bountiful nature, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is one of them. Spread across 52 acres in the heart of Brooklyn, the gardens are home to more than 14,000 plants. There are also several gardens within the gardens, including the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden, Herb Garden, Lily Pool Terrace, Shakespeare Garden and Water Garden, among many others, plus several conservatories that house tropical plants, desert plants and war temperature plants. Expect to see some of your favorites, like roses and orchids, but also unique Bonsai plants and a plaza filled with magnolias (aptly named Magnolia Plaza). The cherry blossoms are of particular interest here, and many come in the Spring when these beautiful blossoms begin to bloom. There are special gardens specifically for children, so your entire family can participate and learn more about these beautiful flowers and plant species. The gardens keep people abreast of which flowers will bloom in which months, so you can see the most beautiful times of the years for each plant. There are also gardening classes and composting tips to take inspiration home. It’s the perfect place to come when the temperatures start to rise and when you simply need some beautiful color in your life.
