Set within Switzerland’s Alpine foothills with panoramic views over Lake Lucerne, the Bürgenstock Resort has proven popular throughout its 150-year history. Now the resort is giving luxury travelers even more reason to make the journey here with the opening of its new Alpine Spa.
Launched on November 6th, 2017, this new spa spans an impressive 107,639 sq ft, making it one of the world’s largest, with noteworthy features including a restored 1950s Hollywood-style swimming pool. While reflecting the hotel’s heritage, the spa benefits from the integration of cutting-edge wellness facilities.
The spa concept was developed by the managing director of Katara Hospitality Switzerland AG Bürgenstock, Bruno Schöpfer. “The listed building, inspired by the iconic architectural style of Frank Lloyd Wright, is one of the original structures found at the Bürgenstock Resort and has been restored to its former glory,” he explains, “While a carefully designed extension, at one with the surrounding environment has allowed the spa facilities to be further developed.”
The spa director Irena Staudenmaier then comments: “The unique cliff-top location above Lake Lucerne offers captivating views to soothe the soul. We believe well-being is as much about the mind as the body so have created a spiritual mountain-top haven.” This is encapsulated in the spa’s ethos ‘wellness without limits’.
Floor-to-ceiling glass walls afford uninterrupted views of the mountains and lake from the indoor space of this three-story spa, which houses a Kneipp bath, an Arabian Razul, panoramic sauna and tranquility room with roaring log fire, among other enticing facilities.
Treatments include signature Bürgenstock stone massages, Vichy shower treatments, anti-ageing facials and elasticity body packs, using local and natural spa brands. La Prairie products will be used in treatments such as the 45-minute Diamond Exfoliation and products by Susanne Kaufmann will be a part of treatments such as the 60-minute Bürgenstock Alpine Facial.
The outdoor space then combines a landscaped private garden with outdoor pools and the resort’s dramatic Alpine views. Fitness classes will be held indoors as well as out in the open air, then the organic farm-to-table cuisine of the spa’s restaurants Oak Grill and Pool Patio complete the wellness experience offered here.
