Café Mish comes to save your lunchtime, tucked behind the charming square Shepard Market in Mayfair between Piccadilly and Green Park. This village has a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs.
I love the historic vibe that’s still in tact. The Mayfair Cobblers shoe repairs still use the old graphics signage. Café Mish is on a corner of Shepard St, it’s a tiny small café with bright sunshine colours used on the windows and logo and it only seats six people.
Café Mish does gourmet sandwiches. What’s on offer? On the menu on the board mainly roasted meats and two vegetarian options. The meats are roasted every morning and nothing is re-heated. Some of the meats end up in soups or used as cold meat sandwich fillers.
Being lunchtime people lined up to order their lunch. Behind the till you can see roasted meats in silver trays ready to be sliced up into sandwiches. Now salt beef I associate with having at one of the beigel shop in Brick Lane on a Sunday trying to open my mouth as wide as I can from the meat piled into the bagel. I wanted to try out Café Mish version.
You can get three sizes; I choose a small one so I can get an extra side. Seated up by the high stools in the corner, you be happy to know Café Mish provides USB sockets to charge your phone. The sandwich arrived wrapped in paper, uncovering a soft bloomer from The Bread Factory, filled with three thick slices of slow braised salt beef, sliced gherkins smothered with a dijonnaise spread. It’s a delicious sandwich, filling and the Mish chips were the perfect pairing. A cupful of hand cut chips seasoned with spiced halen salt.
Since I had more plans for the afternoon I ordered a coffee to keep my day going. My cappuccino came with a thick frothy foam, coffee flavouring is strong.
