Celebrating 10 Years of the Caviar & Cashmere Blog

This year, 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of the Caviar & Cashmere blog. It’s hard to believe that I have been creating consistent content for over a decade. My commitment to this website goes beyond passion; it is now a part of me, much in thanks to you, my readers.

So much has happened both professionally and personally since I launched this blog, as well as in the world. Time passes really quickly, and I often forget to stop and celebrate how far this blog has come, and how much I have grown.

I started Caviar & Cashmere in 2011, while I was still working at a magazine in Los Angeles. I always knew that I loved to write, even as a young child. I would fill up journals with my thoughts, observations, poetry, and prose, which has always been the way I clear my mind. I knew I wanted to work in the field of journalism and was determined to do so. At 18, while I was attending Pepperdine University, I applied for a summer internship at a magazine. I jumped right in, and soaked up everything I could to learn about the industry. I started to write my own articles and pitched them to the editors (something interns do not normally do) and was surprised to learn that some of those articles went on to be published. My first bi-line in a magazine was at 18, and after that summer, I was offered a full-time position. I wanted to continue my education, but also was so excited about having that job, so I committed to doing both full-time. I sacrificed a lot of my college experience, as I was mostly doing night classes and working in the day. I was attending events and interviewing celebrities on the weekends, while my friends were out partying. I knew that this was my calling, and although difficult at times, I did not regret the choice I made.

I went on to work with several other magazines. I was writing mostly about beauty, fashion, and travel. In 2011, I was working at a magazine running their digital content. The magazine had a significant readership both in print and online, and was quite successful, but unfortunately the publisher had fallen into some hard times and was forced to fold the magazine (which means close it down.) I knew that I could either freak out, and take this as the ground falling out from underneath me, losing my job and security, or, turn this negative circumstance into a positive.

The evening I learned of the news that the magazine would be no longer in a matter of months, I decided to seize the opportunity at hand, and ask permission if I could begin linking the articles I was writing for the magazine’s website onto my new blog. Fortunately, the magazine said yes, and I scrambled to build a blog in a matter of weeks.

From the years of writing I had done, I knew that I loved focusing on luxury fashion, luxury beauty, and luxury travel, so it made sense for me to launch a luxury lifestyle blog. I wanted it to be named something that instantly denoted luxury; something that when the reader heard the name, they felt like they knew what kind of quality of content to expect. It just so happened that two of my favorite luxury items, Caviar & Cashmere, also started with the letter “C”, like my initials (Caitlyn Chase) so I thought it was meant to be. I thought of the name and did not even ask anyone their opinion. I purchased the domain, I designed the logo, and built the website silently. It was not until I left my job and officially launched the blog that I announced my new project.

I was lucky to have built in an audience from the magazine’s website readership. I knew that the visitors to my blog were not going to stay unless the content was really good, so I made it my mission to create the best quality content in order to retain those initial, first visitors.

I spent the next year writing, ideating partnerships, creative directing photoshoots, and learning everything there was to know about running a blog. I spent nights and weekends taking online courses about SEO, custom coding, photography, graphic design and retouching in order to make sure I had all the tools in my toolbox.

I remember my first partnership for the blog like it was yesterday. I was invited to The Beverly Hills Hotel (one of my favorite hotels in the world) to visit and review their brand new La Prairie Spa. I remember feeling like a princess, having a diamond facial, caviar manicure/pedicure, and hot stone massage. After a day at the spa, leaving with the biggest smile on my face and running home to write my story, I was pinching myself that I got to call this “work.”

Ten years later, I still have the same enthusiasm about the work I do. I have had the privilege of partnering with some of my favorite brands in the world across a variety of different industries, from MAC Cosmetics, to Virgin, Amazon, BCBG, Ritz Carlton, and Aston Martin. I have traveled to over 30 cities and worked with governmental agencies, have been featured in publications like Forbes and Vogue, spoke on stages to share my story, brought hundreds of women together at events, started a namesake skincare brand, and was even named one of the top 10 bloggers in Los Angeles.

There is not a day that goes by that I do not thank my lucky stars to have built such an incredibly loyal community, and cannot wait to continue on this journey and find out what the future holds.

Thank you for your support and following along! It means the world to me.
