A frequent jetsetter, chef Joël Robuchon touched down in London town earlier this month. But this time, he wasn’t there to preside over a new restaurant opening nor to examine one of his famous kitchens.
Robuchon, alongside longtime friend Dr. Nadia Volf, has in fact penned a new book, Food & Life, and the lively launch took place at publisher Assouline’s flagship store in London’s Piccadilly this February.
Co-author Volf, a professor and acupuncturist, told Elite Traveler why they wanted to write the book together.
“Joël and I, we are two people, a physician and a chef, who come from two different worlds, united by the same humanistic goal: to bring people happiness and health,” she explained.
“Whenever we would meet, we were constantly discussing how to feed people better, how to help them understand that the most delicious food at the same time might be beneficial for their health, you just need to know some basic things.”
The beautifully illustrated tome, ‘an ode to healthy cuisine’, examines the effects of specific foods on our physical and mental state. It also includes delicious gourmet recipes “balanced for all seasons and stages of life”, according to its authors.
Asked whether jetsetters should and could make time for cooking in their hectic schedules, Volf said: “Each of our recipes can be prepared in less than an hour—it just requires the love and desire to bring delightful and healthy food to the people who will eat the meal.”
Robuchon, who holds more Michelin stars than any other chef, has award-winning restaurants in cities across the globe including London, Paris, Monaco, Tokyo and Las Vegas. His latest venture is a restaurant at La Grande Maison hotel in Bordeaux, France, which opened in December of last year.
