Chez Nous
Chez Nous is formally known as Chez Mamie, hidden in a quiet backstreet of Tottenham Court-road along Hanway Street. It’s the perfect sort of place for a quick bite for lunch or downtime for coffee. The reason for the name change from Chez Mamie is due to the mom retiring the daughter renamed the place as Chez Nous. It still remains the friendly family run atmosphere, French music is poured out through the speakers instantly transporting you to France. Furnished with a mismatch of wine bottles, bar carts and old wooden furniture. I actually read about Chez Nous from a Muji London guidebook, it was voted as a favourite amongst customers.
There’s pre-prepped food by the front of the counter in a glass display cabinet, but it’s the freshly made to order cook food you want to order.
The menu
The menu is handwritten, a little hard to read it and changes day by day. As you can see by the photo there’s oven chicken, salads, quiche but my eyes were drawn to the croque monsieur and croque madams. Their make a great option for brunch filling, satisfying and just delicious. Ordering a hot chocolate the surface bubbled up nice and frothy, with an additional biscuit on the side.
croque monsieur
The croque monsieur arrived on a colourful china plate, melted grilled cheese bubbled up on the surface with chopped up chives and a side salad. The bread looks like it’s home-baked medium size cut, filled with the ham and creamy white sauce. Oven toasted bread soaked up the creamy cheese sauce.
Service
Service is efficient and every item brought out was with care. I asked about the name change and the lovely lady told me how her mum retired but they wanted to keep the family business running.
