Amidst the excitement, fervor, and occasional chaos of the current moment, Closed channels a sense of calm in a preview of its Winter 2021 collection. The brand wanted to invoke a sense of inner peace with the clothes by working within a color and design scheme that feels grounded, cozy, and accessible.
The collection, split into two drops, draws inspiration from various forms of art. The first uses as source material the works of two fine artists: the Belgian painter, Michaël Borremans, and the German painter, Jochen Klein. Both of their works convey a soft and textured sensibility that feels readily apparent in the clothes. Closed took inspiration from the way these painters play with light and color to construct the layered and tonal feel of the line. Here, expect warm earthy shades, paired with soft wool whites, and blues.
Meanwhile, the second drop looks to urban photography and notions of community as a guiding framework. Soft military influences are also part of the collection. The color story of the second drop leans similarly earthy but with additions of beiges and deep greens.
After a year spent mainly inside, Closed is here to ease the transition from comfort to cool with a bevy of cuts and materials that bridge the gap between the great in and outdoors. The brand opts for drawstring pants that look just as good on the couch as they do at the corner store as well as a collection of denim items with a worn-in feel for maximum comfort. Though it may be summer now, Closed’s upcoming winter collection has us dreaming of chillier months.
